Hoot Owl Fishing Restriction from mile: 0.0 to 83.0 beginning August 2 From the confluence with Clark Fork River upstream to the confluence of East Fork and West Fork Bitterroot River

Definitely have your mayfly box handy, along with a few hoppers. Few hecuba, tricos, and baetis are the name of the game. Cycle through hopper colors to keep you busy until the spinner fall. You should have good fishing on the 'root today, with good trico action through the morning and hopper action into lunch time. The trico eating fish on the lower river have been a little snotty, so sizing down may be the name of the game. Tails-up tricos, sunken spinners, midge clusters, and double wing spinners have fooled em for us. Higher on the river, hoppers, ants, and beetle patterns have been very effective. Pink, or peach has been solid. Stripping caddis emergers or swinging soft hackles in the morning will get you some very nice fish, as well. Don't forget, fishing restrictions are still active, so off by 2pm. Stay tuned, we'll keep you posted. Have a good weekend!
