Bitterroot Fishing Report - 4/10

Beginning in April, once a week we will post a brief description of a rig we saw during the previous week that had one of our Kingfisher stickers on the window. When you recognize it as being your car described in our hatch report, stop into the shop and pick out 2 dozen nymphs or dries on us!!

This week's winner of the two dozen free flies, just for having a Kingfisher sticker in his window, is a..... (drum roll)

Forest Green Toyota Tundra: with the last two digits of the license plate being... 09

Drive your rig down to the shop and pick up your bugs!  Thanks for being a Kingfisher customer.

The Bitterroot's flow is hopping its way up to 5000 cfs and losing clarity with every step.  With this push of water, you can expect the fish to be displaced back towards the banks and into the side channels.  The dry fly fishing will be almost nonexistent, so expect to be fishing tandem nymph rigs and streamers.  A tandem rig with a Pat's rubber leg, Skwala nymph, pheasant tail, red copper John, San Juan worm or a micro stone should work.  If you want to swing some streamers, use big dark colored buggers and sculpin patterns tight to the banks. In higher flows like this, getting your junk to the fish can be tricky.  Using heavier than usual bugs and giving them an extra second or two to get down can make a HUGE difference.
