The Bitterroot has been fishing a little so-so. Tricos have been fairly consistent through the morning, but the hopper fishing has been a little spotty. A little cloud cover will make all the difference. The Bitterroot is a good plan for the next cloudy day. Tricos and baetis have been the ticket late in the morning. The fish have been on them well into the afternoon. The bruisers have been on the prowl early in the morning, but majority of the fish are waiting for it to warm up. Hoppers are still getting chowed, although the trout are starting to get snotty. Dropping a #16 little green machine 6-8" below a beetle/ant/midge cluster has been automatic, when targeting pods of rising fish. More often than not, they will eat the nymph. It's quickly switching over to the fall fishing routine. Be on the look out for mahoganies..... they'll be coming soon.
