The Blackfoot has displayed some really stellar fishing through the month of August. Luckily, The Blackfoot tends to be one of the coldest rivers in the Missoula area. Hoppers and terrestrials have been the way to go. For dries use big elk hair caddis, more-or-less hoppers, chernobyls, stimulators, ant-acids, super beetles, water walkers, parachute adams, and purple hazes. For nymphs use Pat's rubber legs, princes, TJ hookers, CDC pheasant tails, MacGruber nymphs, San Juan worms, and carotene jigs. Daybreak streamer fishing has been very entertaining. The bigger fish have been showing up for breakfast in a big way. The days of pounding the bank and fishing tight to the willows are well behind us (finally!). It's now time to swing tail-outs, inside bend diamond chop, and the deep green troughs. For streamers use dirty hippies, sparkle minnows, slum lords, silk kitties, kreelex minnows, and sculpzillas.
