Clark Fork River Fishing Report - 4/12REPORTS:

Beginning in April, once a week we will post a brief description of a rig we saw during the previous week that had one of our Kingfisher stickers on the window. When you recognize it as being your car described in our hatch report, stop into the shop and pick out 2 dozen nymphs or dries on us!!

The Clark Fork is finally on the drop again and thinking about gaining a bit of clarity.  Conditions are still less than ideal, but there are a few willing fish here and there.  It's almost exclusively a subsurface game at this point with streamers doing about as well as anything, especially for bigger fish.  The lower river has been giving up some decent sized browns on near dead-drifted buggers, and the uppermost reaches are the typical spring brown trout happiness when the fishing's good.  The river above Missoula is running about 4880 and just starting to drop while the river near St. Regis is at 12,800.  Hatches here are still pretty sparse, but skwalas, March browns and caddis are peeking around the curtain.

HATCHES: midges, capnias, nemouras and the occasional "others" mentioned above.

FLIES: Small prince nymphs, bacon and egg combos (San Juans in tandem with an egg patter), Griffith's gnats and zebra midges on sunny days, slow moving or jigged rabbit streamers in front of sighted pike.

Other Info: The Kingfisher is the largest dealer of Simms Fishing Products in the Rocky Mountains.
