Rock Creek Fishing Report 10/15
Rock Creek has been fishing exceptionally well, but the water levels are still very low right now.
Dry fly fishing was pretty great these past few weeks but with the coldfront that moved in this past week the hoppers and other terrestrials are pretty much done. a few october caddis can still be seen on the warmer days but again the hatch has slowed. The BWOs are going to be the main attractioin to the dry fly anglers at the moment.
Nymphing is always a reliable option. Smaller perdigons and soft hackles do a great job of imitating the BWOs and mahoganies before they hatch. For fishing deeper water with indicator rigs larger bugs like the Double bead stone, rubber legs, and TJ hooker are great options to imitate the larger stoneflies in the river and great options.
The streamer bite has been on. Those larger browns are actively searching for big meals befor they move into spawning areas. That fact paired with the cool cloudy weather we are seeing has really turned the streamer fishing on. patterns like the Dungeon, peanut envy, or gonga have all been quite productive.
As we get later into October and early November those browns will be on redds so be causious where you wade and let those spawning fish be.
