Rock Creek Fishing Report 5/10
High water is here. The creek is running pretty high and muddy. Usually around 1000cfs wade fishing becomes quite dangerous so if you are going to get out there keep your head on a swivel and watch your footing.
We’re seeing some great hatches, including Stones, BWOs, Mother’s Day Caddis, and Grey Drakes. Sunny afternoons warming up the shallows should bring on some incredible dry fly action.
If the dry fly bite isn’t happening, nymphing is going to be your best bet. A double nymph rig with a stone and a worm should get it done.
Streamer fishing is another solid bet for landing big fish in these high flows. The murky water, especially on overcast days, will push larger fish into the shallows and banks to feed. Focus on undercut banks, big boulders, and the edges of riffles. Dark large profile bug swam in the soft water will be the most effective approach.
