Blackfoot River Fishing Report 6/30/26

Blackfoot River Fishing Report 6/30/26

Message from FWP as of 6-25-26:

ATTENTION FLOATERS: Advised to unload and walk your boat through "The Strainer Tree Area" approxamitley 1 mile below Harry Morgan campground - rough coordinates 46.98791, -113.11272. There have been numerous accidents in this area in the last few weeks including hung up boats on strainers. Be very aware, keep your hands on the oars, and be vigilant.

The Blackfoot remains in a very fishable summer range, though the weekend rain may have added a little color and a small bump in flows depending on the section. Compared to the other local rivers, the Blackfoot is still generally manageable and should continue to fish well as long as clarity holds. There is enough water to keep fish comfortable, but anglers should still pay attention to banks, seams, and softer water where trout can feed efficiently.

Golden Stones are now the main big-bug focus. Salmonflies are fading in most places, but a few leftovers may still be around higher in the system and in canyon water. PMDs, Yellow Sallies, caddis, and Green Drakes are also active and should keep fish looking up through the day. A dry-dropper rig is a strong choice right now, especially along banks, buckets, willow lines, and soft riffle edges.

The best fishing should be along inside seams, bankside eddies, buckets, soft pockets, and slower shelves below faster water. Nymphing will still be steady if the water has color or fish are not committing to dries. Streamers are worth fishing early, late, or during cloudy periods, especially along shaded banks and deeper buckets.

Weather near Bonner looks mixed early, with shower and thunderstorm chances through Friday, followed by warmer and mostly sunny weather over the weekend. If the river stays clear, the cloud cover could help the bite. If storms hit hard, give the water a little time to settle and focus on slower edge water with larger profiles.
