Blackfoot River Fishing Report 7/10/26
Message from FWP as of 6-25-26:
ATTENTION FLOATERS: Advised to unload and walk your boat through "The Strainer Tree Area" approxamitley 1 mile below Harry Morgan campground - rough coordinates 46.98791, -113.11272. There have been numerous accidents in this area in the last few weeks including hung up boats on strainers. Be very aware, keep your hands on the oars, and be vigilant.
The Blackfoot is dropping into a very fishable summer range. The Bonner gauge is around 1,710 cfs, down from last week, and the river is becoming more defined each day. There is still enough water to keep trout comfortable, but fish are settling into summer lies along banks, buckets, willow lines, riffle edges, and soft inside seams.
Golden Stones are still important, but the fishing is becoming more balanced between stones, mayflies, Yellow Sallies, and caddis. Dry-dropper rigs are a strong choice through the banks and soft edges. A Golden Stone, Chubby, or Water Walker with a stonefly nymph, PMD nymph, caddis pupa, or small jig underneath will cover a lot of water.
PMD spinner dry-fly action is worth watching for in the morning, especially in slower slicks, tailouts, and softer riffles. When the sun starts to drop, caddis should become more active, and fish may slide into bank seams and softer riffles to feed. Evening caddis can be one of the better windows during this hot weather.
The Bonner forecast is hot and mostly sunny Friday and Saturday, with highs in the 90s, then a little cooler Sunday. Start early, take advantage of the morning dry-fly window, and be cautious with fish handling during the heat of the afternoon.
