Blackfoot River Fishing Report 7/6/26

Blackfoot River Fishing Report 7/6/26

Message from FWP as of 6-25-26:

ATTENTION FLOATERS: Advised to unload and walk your boat through "The Strainer Tree Area" approxamitley 1 mile below Harry Morgan campground - rough coordinates 46.98791, -113.11272. There have been numerous accidents in this area in the last few weeks including hung up boats on strainers. Be very aware, keep your hands on the oars, and be vigilant.

The Blackfoot is in a good summer range and remains very fishable. The weekend rain added some water and may have created short-lived color in places, but the river is still manageable and has plenty of flow to keep trout comfortable. Current flows are near a productive level for early July, and the river should continue to fish well as long as clarity holds.

The best fishing will be along banks, willow lines, soft inside seams, buckets, riffle edges, and slower shelves below faster water. Fish are looking up, but a dry-dropper rig is still the most versatile setup. A Golden Stone, Chubby, or Water Walker on top with a stonefly nymph, caddis pupa, PMD nymph, or small jig underneath will cover a lot of good water.

Golden Stones are the main big-bug focus, with PMDs, Yellow Sallies, Green Drakes, and caddis filling in the rest of the daily activity. Look for stronger dry-fly windows from late morning through evening, especially when the light softens or clouds move through. If the river has a little color, nymphing and streamers should stay productive.

Weather near Bonner looks unsettled today with a shower or thunderstorm chance, then warmer Tuesday and Wednesday with highs near the upper 80s. Thursday looks mostly sunny, and Friday turns very warm. With warmer weather coming, earlier starts will become more important.
