Blackfoot River Fishing Report 7/8/26

Blackfoot River Fishing Report 7/8/26

Message from FWP as of 6-25-26:

ATTENTION FLOATERS: Advised to unload and walk your boat through "The Strainer Tree Area" approxamitley 1 mile below Harry Morgan campground - rough coordinates 46.98791, -113.11272. There have been numerous accidents in this area in the last few weeks including hung up boats on strainers. Be very aware, keep your hands on the oars, and be vigilant.

The Blackfoot is dropping and clearing after the rain bump and is now back in a very fishable summer range. Flows still provide enough cover and comfort for trout, but the river is becoming more defined each day. Expect good fishing if clarity holds, especially in the upper and middle sections where conditions should clean up fastest.

The best water will be banks, willow lines, inside seams, buckets, soft riffle edges, and slower shelves below heavier current. Fish are looking up, but a dry-dropper is still the best all-around setup. A Golden Stone, Chubby, or Water Walker with a stonefly nymph, caddis pupa, PMD nymph, or small jig underneath will cover a lot of good water.

Golden Stones are the main big-bug focus, with PMDs, Green Drakes, Yellow Sallies, and caddis filling in the rest of the daily activity. Look for better surface fishing late morning through evening, especially under softer light or when bugs are active along the banks. If the river has a little color, nymphs and streamers should stay productive.

Weather near Bonner is hot and mostly sunny this week, with a slight thundershower chance today and highs moving into the upper 80s and low 90s. With warmer weather coming, earlier starts will become more important, and anglers should keep an eye on afternoon water temperatures.
