Rock Creek Fishing Report 7/6/26

Rock Creek Fishing Report 7/6/26

Rock Creek came up with last weekend’s rain, but it is already dropping back toward a better wade-fishing level. The creek is still stronger than it was before the storm, so expect more push in pocket water and a little more caution when crossing. Clarity should keep improving as flows settle.

No floating is allowed on Rock Creek, so plan on wade fishing only. Focus on soft banks, boulder edges, riffle drops, pocket water, inside bends, and slower seams behind heavier current. The extra water can help fish feel comfortable, but anglers should still move carefully and avoid pushing through fast water.

Golden Stones are still worth fishing, but the main focus is shifting toward PMDs, Green Drakes, Yellow Sallies, and caddis. Cloudy weather can bring good mayfly activity, while warmer evenings should help caddis fishing. Dry-dropper rigs remain productive, especially with a Golden Stone or Chubby on top and a PMD, caddis, or small jig nymph below. Smaller dries can be excellent when fish are rising in softer water.

Weather near Clinton looks unsettled today with a shower or thunderstorm chance, then warmer and mostly better through Thursday and Friday. If the creek keeps dropping and clarity holds, Rock Creek should fish well this week. Start earlier as temperatures climb, and be ready to switch from dry-dropper rigs to smaller dries when fish start feeding on mayflies or caddis.
